The Backbone Of Blacksmithing (light work level)

This class will involve the basic utilization of the forge and proper use of the tools to produce scrolls. No previous knowledge is necessary for this course! This class will introduce students to the fundamentals of blacksmithing such as terms, tools, and proper procedures. The techniques that will be learned in this class will lead to the production of three types of decorative scrolls known as the penny, fishtail, and pointed scrolls. The scroll has long been used as an artistic accent among forge work used to enhance a piece of work and keep the viewers eye moving. The scroll is found in all aspects of nature and conveys a floral shape that is fluid and pleasing to view. The formula known as the golden ratio AKA the Fibonacci sequence is a pattern found throughout the cosmos and defines the scroll mathematically. If made correctly, the scroll can add to a piece of ironwork and is often seen in various art and architecture.
