Forging punches/chisels
In this class students will work O1 tool steel into a flat chisel and a drifting punch. Tool steel is sensitive to heat treating and tougher than mild steel. It’s because of this that most tools are made using this alloyed steel. In this class students will learn how to work and shape the metal and proper ways to quench the metal in what is called heat treatment. Students will learn normalization, and proper tempering techniques to make the steel stronger and suitable for heavy use.
